Micro Mayhem - Release

The contest is finally over! To be honest, month long contests like this have started getting a little bit much for us. Ape Tavern has a lot of "older" developers who do not have as much time as students, but we are still very grateful to Facepunch for the opportunity to participate.

And so, we factored this limitation into our jam idea: we knew we needed something that could compete with bigger scope games, with a focus on fun. I repeated "low scope + fun" over and over again as we were coming up with our game idea. We wanted to create game loop that prioritized fun and simplicity over flashy graphics or intricate systems.

Micro Mayhem is our idea of a quintessential s&box-platform game. We believe s&box at its best is something you can quickly hop on with friends, and play party games with low effort. If you have s&box, you have every game available on the platform. Why wouldn't we prioritize creating games that suit the platform's main draw so well?

Micro Mayhem has been released since Sunday evening, but we would love to get lots of feedback. As we playtested this game internally, we would often spend 1-2 hours playing without realizing where the time was going. It was just fun to play! But we know it's not perfect.

If you have feedback for the game, we would love to hear it! You can leave feedback in the Ape Tavern Discord. Furthermore, feel free to leave reviews and ratings, whether you liked the game or not. We will take all of your feedback and try to refine this game as well as possible. New content updates (new maps, traps, QoL updates, etc) will be coming after judging, so keep an eye out!

A huge shout out to my team at Ape Tavern! The full credits for everyone who worked on this game are in the About section. Lastly, shout out to Facepunch, who helped us with a nasty bug / miscommunication about half way through the jam. We love working in an engine where the developers are accessible, friendly, and always ready to help.
