Make a clicker game is not easy ! 🥖
This is our first devlog. As we are French, we're using a little AI to translate our posts, so please bear with us :). Let's dive into our first blog post about the creation of this tumultuous game.

I thought it would be quick and easy

I'm a new indie game dev. To learn the ropes, my team and I decided to create small games: Disko, Baguette Clicker, and a new one coming very soon.

Unfortunately, we didn't expect a simple clicker game to present such a challenge. I refactored the code 3 or 4 times in order to have a really maintainable project. Job done!

Main Loop

I initially wanted to create something totally wild, but I decided to focus on the king: Cookie Clicker. I aimed to make my own version with Baguette Clicker, following its core logic but adding a twist:

A bit like Universal Paperclips, we have two currencies: money AND baguettes. You constantly have to juggle both. With baguettes, you can invest in "dealers" (and other things) that generate money, which in turn lets you buy bakers.

This creates a simple core gameplay loop. We have generators producing different resources, their costs increase exponentially, and... VOILA!

Upgrades

The game felt pretty bare initially, so I decided to add upgrades. I actually refactored this system three times because I wasn't sure how best to integrate it. For those in the know, I ended up using good old polymorphism.

Now, the possibilities for the game upgrades feel endless! We currently have a few types of upgrades available:
  • Clicker that makes the clicks stronger.
  • Generator upgrades... I'll let you discover those for yourselves.
We plan on adding more new upgrades very soon.

What's Next?

I just wanted to create a little game, but now I want to improve a lot of stuff.

Honestly, I've never gotten this far in developing a game before. I'm now at the stage where I need to focus on actual design and adding content – something I haven't really done previously. Usually, I'd just create prototypes, build the underlying systems, and stop there! This time, I need to add content that's balanced and, importantly, not boring.

Here's what I'm thinking for the future:
  • The most requested feature is the leaderboard. It will likely arrive sometime this month (April 2025).
  • I want to implement the prestige system to provide that satisfying feeling of progress reset and replayability.
  • I plan to add many more achievements to make achievement hunting genuinely fun.
  • I'm still on the fence about this one, but I'd like to create minigames for each generator, similar to Cookie Clicker. The UI aspect is daunting, but I'm willing to try and come up with something cool.

 This might be our first post, but it certainly won't be the last! We have so many games currently "in the oven" that we're hoping to become pioneers in the mini-game scene.

We genuinely need your support, help, and suggestions as we grow. Our main goal right now is to build a thriving hub for French S&box enthusiasts, and things are looking promising so far.
