A really solid defense game! You start your run on Night 1 defending your mansion with just a Colt Handgun from the south wing bedroom. Waves of enemies come from the forest to try and break down your front door. The enemy pathing is basic but serves it's purpose; in later stages the variety of creatures increases, with some of the new types having more varied pathing behaviours, which gives the game a good sense of increasing challenge outside of just giving the enemies more health. Once a night is complete the next phase begins where you can do various activties to prepare for the next night. One important and interesting mechanic is managing your sleep level, because being well rested can provide decent buffs for the night while in contrast being really tired will increase the difficulty during the night by giving you different debuffs. You'll need to balance your activities during the day with your overall energy level and availible hours before nightfall, because each task will require both time and energy to complete, as well as some tasks like building defenses requiring materials to complete as well. During the day you have a few options to help prepare. First is the HOME tab, where you can: Sleep to recover your energy; Search Rooms in your house for Treasure, Gun Parts, Metal, and Lumber. Treasure is sold in town for cash, which you can use to buy the other three materials listed, as well as blueprints for attachments, the attachments themselves including a couple that don't have blueprints availible, and a few new guns to add to your arsenal during your run. Selling the treasure is an interesting process in itself. You'll have three choices to choose from, each of them offering to buy different amounts of treasure for prices, so you'll need to sell strategically to hopefully get the most money for your trip. Once you've returned from Town you can use the Gun Parts to upgrade the weapons you already have through a perk system where you can spend extra Gun Parts to re-roll your options for each upgrade level. Gun Parts are also used to assemble weapons and attachments from Blueprints, but these may require Metal and or Lumber to assmble as well. Finally theres your defenses, which can be upgraded in the form of: adding more exterior lights in order to see the enemies better; baricades to help delay the enemies from reaching your door; traps to help eliminate bigger threats; and finally just reinforcing the door itself to withstand more damage before breaking. You can also make repairs to your baricades as long as they weren't totally destroyed, as well as being able to repair the front door from any damage it's taken. You also have the option to clear away some of the trees to get a better sightline on the enemies, but that one task can take a whole day's worth of time and energy, so plan accordingly before jumping into it. Overall this game is a great experience with some decent depth!
