New: the Creatures folder

  • Stick Fighter: click anywhere and a stick figure draws itself on the desktop, stroke by stroke, then comes alive.
    • He fights: a real ragdoll that runs, jumps, flips, climbs walls and the edges of the screen, and fights with punch combos, kicks, uppercuts and flying kicks. He knocks people out, then picks them up and throws them.
    • Air combos: a punch into a launcher uppercut pops someone into the air. He leaps after them and juggles them with quick air punches and kicks, then finishes with a spike down to the floor or a roundhouse across the screen.
    • Impact frames: every blow lands with hit-stop (the game freezes for a split second), a comic-book starburst, and speed lines and a camera shake on the finishers. He can scoop people off the floor into a juggle too.
    • He arms himself: he grabs melee weapons lying around (a katana!) and swings them, and now and then throws a grenade at a crowd.
    • He messes with your desktop: grabs your windows and flings them across the screen (they land on people), and jump-kicks their close buttons. He kicks Fleshy, too.
    • He messes with you: he knocks things out of your grip. Grab him and he struggles, breaks free and goes for your cursor.
    • Two or more: they duel each other.
    • Beating him: he has health. Shoot him, blow him up or beat him with a club and he’s erased, for 60 MB. Right-click with the tool erases them all (for free).
  • Flesh Bugs: pour flesh-eating bugs from the cursor, hundreds at once, with almost no cost to your frame rate.
    • They hunt: they crawl across the floor, up walls and windows and over each other, piling into swarms and towers to reach whoever is up high.
    • They feed: they leap onto people, latch on, bite, drink their blood and crawl up their bodies, eating the flesh until whole limbs are gone. They eat loose gibs as well.
    • They breed: fed bugs split in two.
    • Fighting them off: people panic and run from swarms, and shaking someone (drag them about) throws the bugs off. Fire, explosions, gunshots, lightning (and anything in electrified water), acid, lava, drowning and a hard hit kill them, leaving a splat.
  • Bug Nest: drop one and it lets out bugs until it’s shot or burnt.
  • Bug Spray: hold it to clear them out.

New: progression

  • FleshOS User level: every MB you earn is also XP. The level is on the taskbar.
    • Every level pays MB.
    • Every fifth level gives a free Store item and a new title: Intern, Temp, User, Power User, Admin, Sysadmin, Hacker, Root, Kernel and Ghost in the Machine.
  • Progress.exe (Start menu, or click the level on the taskbar) has four tabs:
    • Level: your level and the next prize.
    • Today: your three daily tasks and your streak.
    • Discoveries
    • Leaderboards
  • Three daily tasks a day, the same for everyone, such as “Sever 40 limbs”, “Make 5 rocks from lava and water” or “Defeat 3 stick fighters”. Each pays 120 to 250 MB, and finishing all three pays 250 MB more.
  • Login streak: the daily bonus grows each day in a row: 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 400 MB. Day 7 gives the Golden crown, a hat only the streak gives. Miss a day and the streak starts again.
  • 33 discoveries: hidden interactions shown as “???” with a hint until you find them, such as lava meeting water, electrified water, a shattered ice statue, a bug tower or a stick fighter duel. Each pays 75 MB. Ones you’d already found before 3.1 count straight away.
  • Random desktop events every 8 to 14 minutes of play:
    • Gifts: a flash sale (something in the Store at half price for 3 minutes), double MB for 2 minutes, or a care package that drops from the top of the screen and breaks open into weapons.
    • Trouble: a bug infestation, a stick fighter escaping from Paint, a meteor shower or a virus outbreak. Fleshy warns you first, with “Bring it on!” and “Not now”.
    • They can be turned off in Control Panel → Display.
  • Global leaderboards (this week’s best): biggest kill combo, longest lightning chain, most killed by one nuke, biggest bug swarm, fastest Express Delivery, highest level and longest streak.
  • 10 new achievements, including Infestation, Exterminator, Buffet, Erased, Fight Club, Promoted and Explorer.

Fixes

  • Emptying the playground, starting a task and opening a saved scene now clear away stick fighters, bugs and windows mid-flight too (they were left behind).
  • A stick fighter going for a window’s close button from right underneath it no longer bumps his head on the window forever; he kicks from beside it, and gives up after a few misses.
  • A window landing on a stick fighter knocks a stick off him instead of bursting him into flesh and organs.
  • Stick fighters no longer climb onto the sword they’re trying to pick up (small props aren’t something to stand on), and they back off before throwing a grenade instead of throwing it at their own feet.
  • Fleshy’s outfits show up on him and sit on his picture in the Store (3.0.1).
  • Crash fixes for lightning, resizing the window and the blood system (3.0.1).
