SHOOTHOUSE game · 22 Days Ago Recommended
A really solid defense game! You start your run on Night 1 defending your mansion with just a Colt Handgun from the south wing bedroom. Waves of enemies come from the forest to try and break down your front door. The enemy pathing is basic but serves it's purpose; in later stages the variety of creatures increases, with some of the new types having more varied pathing behaviours, which gives the game a good sense of increasing challenge outside of just giving the enemies more health. Once a night is complete the next phase begins where you can do various activties to prepare for the next night. One important and interesting mechanic is managing your sleep level, because being well rested can provide decent buffs for the night while in contrast being really tired will increase the difficulty during the night by giving you different debuffs. You'll need to balance your activities during the day with your overall energy level and availible hours before nightfall, because each task will require both time and energy to complete, as well as some tasks like building defenses requiring materials to complete as well. During the day you have a few options to help prepare. First is the HOME tab, where you can: Sleep to recover your energy; Search Rooms in your house for Treasure, Gun Parts, Metal, and Lumber. Treasure is sold in town for cash, which you can use to buy the other three materials listed, as well as blueprints for attachments, the attachments themselves including a couple that don't have blueprints availible, and a few new guns to add to your arsenal during your run. Selling the treasure is an interesting process in itself. You'll have three choices to choose from, each of them offering to buy different amounts of treasure for prices, so you'll need to sell strategically to hopefully get the most money for your trip. Once you've returned from Town you can use the Gun Parts to upgrade the weapons you already have through a perk system where you can spend extra Gun Parts to re-roll your options for each upgrade level. Gun Parts are also used to assemble weapons and attachments from Blueprints, but these may require Metal and or Lumber to assmble as well. Finally theres your defenses, which can be upgraded in the form of: adding more exterior lights in order to see the enemies better; baricades to help delay the enemies from reaching your door; traps to help eliminate bigger threats; and finally just reinforcing the door itself to withstand more damage before breaking. You can also make repairs to your baricades as long as they weren't totally destroyed, as well as being able to repair the front door from any damage it's taken. You also have the option to clear away some of the trees to get a better sightline on the enemies, but that one task can take a whole day's worth of time and energy, so plan accordingly before jumping into it. Overall this game is a great experience with some decent depth!

I really enjoy the concept of the game, and the core mechanics are there. It just needs more depth and variety, as well as some fine tuning and optimization with the overall game performance. I think having more materials to build with would help create more options when it comes to designing your raft. I also wish there was a way to save your build to be able to load it in fully assembled for it's cash value, since I pretty much build the same thing on Round One every match and it costs the exact starting amount of cash to build each time anyways. A save and load system would spare me the hassle of scrambling to assemble my Round 1 raft every single time, as well as provide something quick to load in if I join a match in progress with only a few seconds left to build. Another thing to note is that some of the current materials behave a little unexpectedly. For example, a box cage made out of six fences will stay rooted to the ground when the water rises, since it obviously weighs too much to float. But as soon as I add just a couple of metal sheets to cover the small gap in the top between the two fences the whole thing starts floating up to just below the water line. Metal + More Metal = Float doesn't add up to me personally, but I get this isn't supposed to be a hyper realistic buoyancy simulation or anything. There also desperatley needs to be more maps, especially ones that are more spread out so that people are incentivized to actually use their raft/boat to get around instead of swimming the short distance over to someone else's raft while tanking the tick damage from being in the water. Also, one of the current maps, Venice, needs some tweaking because there are spots on the map that you can stand on outside of the water in order to survive instead of building a raft at all. All that being said though I do enjoy the game and will likely come back to it even without any changes being made, but I do think that some more content being added in the form of additional maps and building materials would help complete the experience.

It's a simple card game port, fun for a few rounds or as a quick activity with friends. I'm interested to see what the 3D map feature will be like once it's added, because a more interactive experience would help elevate this game from a quick time killer into something potentially worth coming back to as a party game option.
