I think you can make some very advanced and complex systems with AI, but AI will never be able to upgrade the humans playing it to be able to take in that much info at once. This is a lot better than many of the games with this issue, but it still feels over-complex in terms of UI and upgrades while the movement-gameplay offers very little itself. I only played the first wave though when I quit, maybe it gets better but it does not make a good first impression.
