Vast
A multiplayer space-survival sandbox set across a lawless galaxy of dead stars - full-loot stakes, player-driven conflict, and a frontier that doesn't care whether you make it.
You start as a Drifter: cut loose with a rookie hull and nothing to your name. From the safe harbour of Haven, you mine asteroids, run missions, fit out your ship, and train Memories (the pilot skill system) to unlock bigger hulls and better gear.
But everything worth having is out past the gates, and out there, there are no rules.
Core Concepts
- Open galaxy - Warp system to system through stargates, plot routes on the galaxy map, and push deeper into more dangerous space for richer rewards.
- Ships & fitting - Hulls with module slots: turrets, missile launchers, mining lasers, shields, propulsion. Tactical combat where guns have to *track* fast targets (and miss), while missiles trade raw damage for reliable application based on a target's size and speed.
- Full-loot PvP - Beyond the safe zone, any pilot can open fire, and a wrecked ship spills everything it was carrying for whoever shows up first. Fly what you can afford to lose.
- The Hollow - Escalating tiers of AI enemies haunt the frontier, guarding wreck-fields, nests, and salvage sites packed with loot. The deeper you go, the harder they hit.
- Build, hoard, raid - Stake claims and raise outposts to stockpile gear, but player structures can be raided, so nothing deep in hostile space is ever truly safe.
- Economy & progression - A player-driven market, mining, fabrication, blueprints, and engrams feed a slow climb from rookie frigate to a ship that commands the field.
- Squads & Factions - Run with a fleet of friends, or join a faction with ranks and permissions and fight for territory.
- Wipe cycles - The galaxy resets, so the ladder is never settled and everyone gets another run at the top.
PvP & Risk
Vast is built around meaningful risk. Haven and other safe zones keep new pilots alive while they find their feet, but the moment you jump out to the frontier you're fair game. Out there:
- Any player can fire on you.
- A destroyed ship drops its cargo and fitted modules as a lootable wreck.
- Outposts and stockpiles can be raided by other players.
- You respawn at your chosen Wake Point, often in a bare hull, with the long climb back ahead of you.
Every trip past the gates is a gamble between what you stand to gain and what you can stand to lose.
Early in Development
Vast is still early in development. The core loop is playable and the pillars above are in, but it's actively being built, balanced, and expanded. Expect rough edges now, and a lot more to come: new ships, weapons, systems, sites, and features are on the way.
If you want to get in early and help shape where it goes, this is the time.
