Hey everyone!
I've recently started exploring game development in s&box, and I have a question about extending existing games.
Is there a proper way to create a game that inherits from another game?
For example, in Garry's Mod, you could use DeriveGamemode("sandbox") to create a custom gamemode based on sandbox, override existing functions, and add your own functionality on top of it. Meanwhile, the original sandbox gamemode would remain independent and could receive updates without requiring you to modify its source code.
I haven't found a similar mechanism in s&box so far. From what I understand, the closest approach right now would be to fork an existing game's repository on GitHub, build on top of it, and periodically merge upstream changes.
Is there a built-in or recommended way to achieve something similar to Garry's Mod's gamemode derivation in s&box? Or is maintaining a fork currently the best approach?
