The more I continue being apart of other game communities and their development, the more I want to pull my hair out at the decisions these fucking studios and their people are making. Big games like Destiny, Minecraft (certain parts), Overwatch, etc the developers are forcefully steering/warping their communities into being docile little lobotomites. Its getting way too common nowadays.

When these Third spaces where established (Some not even 5 years ago) a lot of diversity of opinion was inspiring people to make more cool shit like machinima, fans who contribute directly to the creative direction of the games they are playing and challenging ideas to the point of collaborating with others. (motivation to prove their ideas are cooler)

A great model community is the Risk of Rain 2 Modding community. Even though some use AI, they understand its usefulness and collaborate with each other at every point of the tech stack used to mod the game (even devs like it).
From that, the positivity from playing any new content, updating it, adding content, etc really reinforce that feedback loop for making cool shit.

I want S&box to be that Third Space that has that same mentality and I think it serves Facepunch's purpose of S&box in the first place. The engine and platform has improved ten fold in the last year and I can only imagine what it would be like in another year if they stay locked into development cycles they have been. It only takes 1-2 examples of amazing games coming from the platform or steam to really catapult this community the proper way.

I feel like if Facepunch and Garry focus more on games that are worth playing through showcasing them through their socials and make it more inviting for people to engage with the community would definitely help much more than what's currently being done. The game jam is great in the aspect of us getting more dope games but it really comes down to showing off those good games and putting it as a standard that there's actually games on the platform worth playing.
