Yes I know there hasn't been an annoucement yet on if it's going to be F2P or a set price.
Yes I've seen Garry mentioning how s&box might cost the same as Garry's Mod at $10 USD.
The reason why I made this thread specifically is to understand everyone's reasoning (or maybe get a detailed response from Garry himself) about as to why it'd be better to either have the game fully free to play or a set price.
My own personal understanding with each of these choices is the following :
F2P

My own personal understanding with each of these choices is the following :
F2P
- Easily accessable to anyone on PC and the steam platform.
- A way to quickly get a ton of players and high player count for s&box.
- Another way to softly push the idea of cosmetic microtransactions to support item creators and create s&box's initial play fund revenue stream to payout map and game developers and creators.
- Make it incredibly easy to make the games you want and export them as standalone basically for free.
- Could be seen as a Roblox competitor which is a bit more advanced in game creation tools and ease of access to creating games for it's platform.
Paid or Priced
- Low price around $10 to $15 dollars USD for each purchase of s&box
- Quicker way to to immediately create s&box's play fund revenue pool on launch (since as of developer preview gmod's revenue is currently funding s&box's developement)
- Prevents mass adoption (this is something Garry has mentioned he's a bit weary of and can possibly prevent by putting the game as a set price)
- Could possibly prevent bad actors from making new steam accounts to instantly download s&box and exploit, hack or abuse possible systems in the game (this was a talking point I've heard in the community some people say would be a problem with F2P and possibly could be solved with being paid? I'd probably need to be more informed about how this could happen with being F2P)
- Gives you access to essentially a game engine and platform for a small price
These are just some of the talking points I think of personally or even have heard or seen in conversations with the community. But i'd like to see in a discussion more about what others in the community think about this. As I feel this would something that could make or break the game in my opinion.
