Eventually, when we have the new material editor. I don't really want more people relying on it before then.

i sure hope the alternative will arrive before these are removed, variables in expressions are very useful to change values on only one material for a model with multiple ones

No an alternative won't arrive before they're removed. We're going to have to just act like they never existed.
