Terry's Zoo game · 4 Days Ago Shows Promise
I’m giving it "Promise". The game is not bad, but it has two main problems: overloaded UI/UX and an unclear end goal. About the UI/UX. There’s way too much information in the guideline. The fact that there even is a guideline is already a big plus, but it’s still not enough and it feels strange... There are hint buttons, but you don’t really notice them. The button for searching for animals is especially bad, it’s placed in some random corner for no clear reason. And sometimes there’s just way too much text. About the end goal, this is a problem a lot of game designers have. You need to hook people from the very first second and give them a reason for why they’re doing all of this. The first-person mode is also a big plus, well done, it’s interesting. It actually reminded me a bit of "The Movies". There’s good progress here, but still not enough. Keep updating the game, then message me and I’ll check it out again!

I’m giving this game "Recommended", but with a very big big big note. There are two problems: the UI and the dynamic of gameplay. The UI part is pretty clear. Outlines are risky right now. I know they fit the comic style, although even just a shadow 6px lower and to the right of the panel would probably be enough, but outlines are heavily associated with AI slop now. The UI desperately needs more icons, there’s way too much text, I don’t have enough time to read everything, there’s chaos on the screen and chaos in the game itself. I liked the chaos in the game, but it becomes exhausting from the first seconds because it constantly distracts you. The pacing needs to be introduced gradually and carefully. While the player is doing a quest, add some "points of interest" along the route. I really liked the concept, this game is definitely worth continuing and finishing properly!

This is the first game in 4 months, since review tags were introduced, where I’m giving every positive tag and 0 negative ones. Seriously... I’ve played more than 300 games over 4 years in s&box, so I’ve definitely seen a lot, but this time... Everything is a masterpiece. Sadly, the game probably wouldn’t work as a standalone, that’s maybe the only downside. Everything else is genuinely amazing: it released at the right time, in the right context (Terry is supposed to be removed soon), it’s engaging, and it’s polished.

A voxel world made by my friend, so I’ll try to be as objective as possible. The game is good, the developer knows how to make games, but there are two problems. First, where is the goal? A dragon, save the queen, save humanity, or just figure out what the giant penis in the middle of the map is doing there. Why should I keep playing? I love sandbox games, but not everyone understands the point of them. There are short quests, tutorial quests, achievements, but no long-term goal. The second problem is optimization. I know how difficult it is to work with voxels when you’re making a huge world, especially with physics on top of that, and the performance cost is really scary. On a 3050 with 32GB RAM you get around 40-60 FPS, and it can easily drop to 25-30. But this problem can be fixed, and with Opus and Sol it can probably be fixed even faster. I believe in this project, but there are some fundamental problems, and I described them above. Optimization can be fixed, but the long-term goal... That’s something you really need to sit down with the GDD and think through properly.

WHAT WAS THAT? Pal, I really liked everything. Yeah, I’m tired of the PSX style, but that’s probably a subjective problem. It’s intuitively clear where to run and what to do with the controls, the guideline is very precise and easy to understand for a game like this, and it makes you want to keep playing. It gives off a slight Uncanny Valley feeling (I’m one of those people who doesn’t really believe the liminal space effect exists), and it feels great when you finally make it to the elevator. This game is definitely worth playing.
