Trade protected items

With the s&box economy growing maybe Garry should consider adding trade protection to all cosmetics. All it takes is your account to get hacked for you to instantly lose all your cosmetics. CS2 has started using trade protection which has impacted their economy positively resulting in higher cosmetic purchases and a reduce in scams.

I didn't know it was opt-in, I thought every game now had the period where you can revert a trade, does Rust have it?

Also found it funny that when Steam dropped this update, every trade website had to be shut down because people were selling to their bots then reversing the trades and keeping the money.

yeah you have a choice if you want a trade protection to your game. There was a scandal with steam support logging into accounts and just stealing all their cosmetics lol.

Regarding “trade-rollback” - It’s usually not seen as a good gesture to do this in any system, for the reasons which someone else mentioned - where entities who set themselves up to help users offramp from the market were taken advantage of by bad actors using the new update. Any time that you add a method for a user to make an action which adds a possible step to the flow, you are creating multiple new attack vectors. There is no pre-agreed upon connector for these things and everything is fly-by-night. 

When you look at financial markets that intersect internationally seamlessly with little to not gating, there are a lot of factors which must be taken into consideration before even thinking about things like this. 

The way that monetary value flows in such an ecosystem is usually fueled by things which are sometimes better left not understood by the average person. 

iGaming. The trade rollback feature made CS2 a safer and more appealing investment platform for some groups, like Chinese investors. So why not do the same here if the goal is to grow the marketplace?

Its so easy to get scammed/hacked. It could even be out of your control so why not have a trade protection feature to stop this

Discord was recently hacked resulting in 70000 Discord users ids and personal information to be leaked. I understand this has nothing to do with cosmetics but why couldn't this happen with steam? There were even cases of hackers using social engineering to gain access to phone numbers so they could grab the steam guard and log into peoples accounts.

Scardem, how? Someone outlined how people used it to scam sites out of liquidity while the user got the keep the items + the funds. 

Just look at CSFloat. They pay people 8 days after the trade happens to secure the money and the skin for both traders.

Scardem, that is exactly what most people would want to avoid being forced to deal with when offramping. Are you ok?
