I've just submitted my project Fractal Defense for S&box GameJam III, and I'd love to share what the game is about, how it plays, and hear your honest thoughts and feedback!
🌌 What is Fractal Defense?
Fractal Defense is a tactical Tower Defense game set in a shifting quantum universe governed by fractal geometry.
Your mission is to defend the Quntum Core against relentless waves of mathematical anomalies (Fractal Shards, Mandelbrot Titans, Cryo Bosses, and more). Every map is crafted with real 3D geometry and elevated pedestals, requiring careful positioning, crossfire optimization, and reactive planning.
Core Highlights:
Tactical Camera & Navigation: Smooth WASD, Arrow keys, and Edge-Screen panning designed to oversee large, multi-island layouts.
Balanced Escalation: Full mathematical pacing — no filler waves or artificial plateaus, leading up to intense boss encounters and infinite Quantum Rift cycles.
Diverse Arsenal: From ballistic Mortars with blind-spot rings to chain-lightning Teslas, Cryo slowdown cannons, and rapid-fire Gatlings.
Quality of Life: Dedicated speed toggle (E), transparent tower ranges, interactive health bars, and multi-language support (EN / PT / ES).
🌀 Post-Victory: The Quantum Rift & Endless (+20 Waves Roulette!)
Beating Wave 20 and crushing the Ice Boss isn't the end of your run — it's where the real challenge begins!
Upon victory, players can choose to enter the Quantum Rift, expanding the match by +20 additional endless rounds per cycle:
Quantum Modifier Roulette: Each time you venture into a new 20-wave cycle, the game spins a roulette of random quantum modifiers.
High Risk, High Reward: You receive a powerful game-changing Buff (e.g., massive tower damage, extended range, accelerated cooldowns, extra carbon economy) alongside an unforgiving Debuff (e.g., faster swarms, boosted anomaly HP, reduced tower ranges, carbon drain).
Every 20-round cycle tests your build against escalating chaos, allowing players to push their strategies to the absolute theoretical limit!
🧬 Deep Dive: The 153-Node Tech Tree
One of the core features I wanted to bring to this jam is a deep, modular progression system.
Between matches, research data earned on the battlefield can be spent across 9 distinct branches containing a total of 153 upgrade nodes:
Core Base: Health fortification, reactive EMP pulses, starting economy boosts, and passive resource yield.
8 Dedicated Tower Branches: Specialized progression for Kinetic Cannons, Machine Guns, Shotguns, Cryo Cannons, Ballistic Mortars, Shockwaves, Electric Arcs, and Carbon Generators.
Branching Playstyles: Transition from Tier I into multiple specialized paths (high single-target damage, massive AoE coverage, heavy debuffs, or hyper-efficient economy).
💬 Notice about Feedback & Early Downvotes
A few hours after publishing, I noticed a couple of downvotes/dislikes on the project page.
Since this was developed within the jam window, I'd really love to know if anyone ran into specific issues:
Did you encounter any bugs, crashes, or UI glitches?
How did the controls and camera movement feel to you?
Was the difficulty curve ?
Any performance drops on specific hardware?
Constructive feedback is super valuable to me! If something felt off, clunky, or unbalanced, please drop a reply below so I can patch it right away during the jam.
Thank you so much for checking out Fractal Defense, and good luck to all developers participating in GameJam III! 🚀
