I took a long break from Infina-Obby after gamejam2 back in August 2024. The limitations of the August 2024 state of the s&box engine set the direction for this game. I got back into s&box within the last month with the news of release and to see how the engine progressed. There is still no solid way to hit break points with the s&box editor :-( I haven't changed the direction of this game in this revival. Overall, I am happy with how Infina-Obby turned out on release day.

Procgen

Infina-Obby remains that obby/parkour platformer focused on procedural level generation (procgen). This last update cycle I had some fun tuning that procgen.
  1. Every jump is possible. The altitude and velocity of the next platform is combined with the period of the players jump to calculate when to spawn the next platform and allow the player to rest on 50% of the length of the platform before having to start the next jump.
  2. A mix of randomized and scaling difficulty. Leveraged a CurveRange. It's perfect for procgen, mixing randomization with manual scaling.

Other changes

Made a bunch of new changes since the August 2024 version.
  1. Completely replaced character controller with player controller. Causing physics to work differently than they did in 2024. Overall seems better.
  2. Completely replaced the platform generation code using the "always possible to make the jump" algorithm described above.
  3. New progression feedback with a health bar in the lower left that lets you know if you're getting pushed back too far.
  4. Added achievements.

Future plans

If this game gets some visibility, without me having to figure out marketing (so far I only posted a "game released" on discord), I plan to continue development. I'll put some time into its graphics and setup the procgen seed change once a month. Yet, like every other store, I'm guessing it'll vanish without marketing.

  • Health bar in the lower left that lets you know if you're getting pushed back too far
  • Achievements
🧼 Improved
  • Completely replaced character controller with player controller. Causing physics to work differently than they did in 2024. Overall seems better.
  • Completely replaced the platform generation code using the "always possible to make the jump" algorithm described above.
🪛 Fixed
  • Resets of the game after death is now much more reliable.
🚯 Removed
  • Character controller (replaced with player controller)
⚠️ Known Issues
  • Resets of the game can still fail. Visible by starting at 80 HP instead of 100. However, now, the player will gradually regen health.
