Boomtown - Business Tycoon
Buy it. Build it. Run the floor. Bank the day - then do it all again, bigger.
Boomtown is a multiplayer business tycoon built in s&box. Start with nothing but an empty corner shop and grow into a one-person empire - buying and running a whole chain of different businesses, each its own distinct game to master. There's no idle income here: money is only made by actually running your businesses, day after trading day. Master one, bank the
profit, and unlock the next.
Everyone shares one town and competes on the Town Tycoons leaderboard for all-time earnings - so every day you trade is a move against your rivals.
🏪 Business #1 - The Corner Shop
The shop is a game of layout + stock forecasting: design the floor, read tomorrow's demand, stock to suit, and work the till.
🔨 Build your store
Lay out the shop Sims-style on a grid. Drop down shelves, fridges and freezers, add tills and self-checkouts to keep the queues moving, mount CCTV to deter thieves, and bolt on a coffee machine or hot dog stand for extra trade. Move, rotate and sell fixtures freely, and expand the floor as you grow.
📦 Stock the shelves
Choose from 32 grocery lines across dry shelves, the fridge and the freezer - bread, milk, coffee, ice cream, frozen pizza, umbrellas and more. Each line has a wholesale cost, a retail price and a demand rating. Set your standing daily order and the shop restocks every morning; whatever doesn't sell, perishes.
▶️ Run the trading day
Open the doors and watch a compressed 6am→9pm shift play out. Shoppers wander the aisles working through their lists, queue at the tills, and pay. Jump on a till yourself and time the serve minigame for bigger tips, or hire staff to ring customers up for you. Speed the day up 1× / 10× / 20× when you just want to see the results.
🌦️ Read the forecast
Every day comes with an event that shifts demand - and a chance to cash in. W Day or Cold Snap, or occasions like Big Match Day, a Bank Holiday BBQ, Cold & Flu season, a Town Bake Sale or School Holidays. Each one sends demand soaring for certain lines (ice cream in a heatwave, umbrellas in the rain, soup in a cold snap…) and those hot items also sell for 50% more. Read tomorrow's forecast in build mode and stock to suit.
🦹 Mind the shoplifters
Busier, bigger shops attract more (and greedier) thieves. They roam the aisles and pocket your stock - so place CCTV cameras to cover your shelves and shut them down.
📊 Review the day
Close up and pore over the day report: customers served, average spend, queue full finances - sales, restocking, theft, wages and total profit - and aline-by-line breakdown of every product (bought, sold, cost, sales, profit, missed sales and units stolen). The shoppers even tell you why they left happy or not.
🎯 Chase the goals
Hit your Shop Goals - serve 10 customers in a day, average $60 a customer, and land a day with 95% satisfaction and $5k profit - to unlock your second business, the Café.
☕ Business #2 - The Café
Where the shop is layout + stock forecasting, the café is flow engineering - a completely different game. Buy the café (~$15k off a finished shop) and turn it profitable by mastering throughput: the menu is a machine, your baristas are its parts, and the day is the stress test. Everything inside costs - and earns - far more than the corner shop.
🧩 Build the line, set the menu
Place coffee stations on the same Sims-style grid - grinder, espresso machine, milk steamer, batch brewer, grill/oven, prep counter, pastry case - plus seating (stools, tables, sofas). Rotate each machine to fit your kitchen, and your baristas stand at its working face to use it. Then build your menu from 14 recipes, each a chain of steps that flow through those stations - you can only put a dish on the menu once you've placed every machine it needs. The Menu Builder's rush-load preview is the heart of it: per-station load bars show, before
the day starts, exactly which station your menu will choke.
🧑🍳 Hire, train and roster
A fresh applicant board of three CVs each morning, with skills shown straight up - no guesswork, no gambling. Your café opens with a free onboarding trio: pick one to get trading. Every barista has four skills (Bar / Kitchen / Till / Charm), a daily wage and fatigue. Roster them onto the till, the kitchen stations, or as a floating "Everything" generalist - skill makes a station faster, fatigue slows them down - and pay to train your best people all the way to a perfect 10/10 skill.
⏱️ Run the service
Start the day and watch one continuous 7am→6pm service play out in real time. Your baristas physically run the floor - take the order at the till, walk to the right machine, make the drink, carry it to the pickup counter. Customers queue, order, wait, grab a self-serve pastry from the case, then sit in or take away. Choke a station or understaff the floor and they
walk out. Wow them and they become regulars who come back every day, padding e day up to 20× when you just want the result.
📊 Read the breakdown
A full P&L, per-item sales and waste, average wait times, walkout causes (gav seat), a satisfaction histogram, your regulars, the reputation delta - andone highlighted insight ("your baristas ran at 94% - staffing bottleneck") to teach the engineering loop. Chase six Café Goals - from $100k of total revenue and a full ten-strong roster to training a barista to a flawless 10/10 - to truly master the café.

🏙️ The empire keeps growing
Two businesses down, more to come - Boomtown is built as a ladder of businesses, each one a bigger, costlier, more demanding game than the last: a Nightclub, a Salon, an Arcade, and a Bank. Stack them up, run them, and climb the Town Tycoons board.
