Modernizing and Necrotic Revival

Every developer has one: the game that mattered, incomplete and shit. Limina was ours. A first-person setting in a liminal experience, with all its humming fluorescent lights and blocked up corridors. It used to go by limbox, back when the name was a placeholder and had some ambition behind it.

Then life happened, the engine moved on underneath it, and Limina was like a stale biscuit . Not finished, not abandoned exactly, just there. Until I opened it one day staring at a menu that didn't play, old models that didn't compile, etc. That's a sad way for something you built to sit.
Let's be honest about what this is and isn't. Limina is not back in active development. There is no roadmap, no milestone chart, nothing really.
The goal was smaller and, we'd argue, more important: make it playable and keep it that way.

Games rot faster than people think. Engines update, formats fall out of support, cloud assets are gone, and one day a project that ran fine won't even load. Every year Limina sat untouched, the time cost of reviving it goes up, until eventually nobody bothers. We revived Limina now so that future days still have the option for people to play cuz why not.

Preservation important for that reason.

It's smoother.
Did a pass over the game's inner loop, turned up a lot of work being redone every frame that only needed doing once: the light animations, the way the game tracks nearby lights and props, the inventory, enemy awareness, trigger zones, HUD updates. Along with that, we see scene compiling is doing pretty well at handling the 100+ scene mesh objects so theres that.

The menu is now fixed.
Before the menu and intro video didnt load right at all, had shit old FP VideoPlayer implementations from 2024, and now I have it working nicely with the engine-level one. Woo this one was a pain in the ass

Remade the sbox.game package
I archived and queued for deletion the old project, it was stuck under limbox ident for so long and the game name has changed since then. Now its proper.

Until I figure out what to do with Limina, it'll sit again and remain dormant per say.
Im going to keep it in low maintenance mode though.

Limina is cool, feel free to check it out what is there and look for Maxwell. ;)
