Rethinking

Big update is here

This update is a big one. We’ve rethought and rebalanced a lot of how Kampai Roulette plays, and the whole UI has been rebuilt from scratch.

Intoxication is gone. Health and Poison replaces it, so it’s clearer how close you are to being knocked out, and you can heal now. Glasses are shuffled under cover, the new Cat Burglar lets you steal your friends items, and online leaderboards show how you rank against everyone else.

Every menu, the in-match HUD and chat have a new warm, ember-lit look. We also added a new bartender, a new player model, a TAB scoreboard with in-game chat, and plenty of fixes and polish. The Tutorial is offline for now while we update it to the new rules.

Pour a drink, take a seat, and good luck. 🍶

Added

10 changes
  • Health and Poison. The old intoxication system is gone. Everyone starts with 5 Health. Poisoned drinks hurt, doubled ones hurt more, and you’re out when you hit zero.

  • Healing. Water in a Double Measure and the Pickled Plum now restore Health.

  • Cat Burglar. A new item that steals another player’s item and puts it straight into your inventory. While a steal is happening, the thief’s eyes glow red so everyone knows who did it.

  • Covered shuffle. Glasses are now shuffled under cover, with a tally showing how many Poisons are in play. At the start of a match the tally stays up a few extra seconds so you can read it.

  • Online leaderboards. All-time boards with a top-five preview, your own rank, and paging through the top players or the players around you.

  • TAB scoreboard. Hold TAB to see everyone at the table. From there you can view profiles and mute other players’ voice or chat just for yourself.

  • In-game chat with player avatars.

  • Your Steam profile now shows in Practice and the Tutorial.

  • Bots look around. Practice bots now glance at the glasses, items and players they’re about to act on.

  • A new match result screen showing the winner’s avatar and match stats.

  • Other players’ Health now shows as a simple five-segment bar.
