Character Editor
An open-source character editor and demo built from an expanded, unified version of Facepunch’s default human models. Make characters, experiment with the controls, or use it to see what the system could do for your own game.
Customization
Blend seven existing faces and the male and female bodies, then fine-tune the result with face and body sliders.
Individual face regions have their own optional blends too. You can keep your overall face but use a different mix for the nose, jaw, eyes, forehead, ears, lips, cheeks, or throat.
There are skin textures and colors, hair, makeup, tattoos, clothing, and more exaggerated options like pointed ears and fantasy skin colors. Randomization combines face regions, skins, and outfits to give you varied starting characters.
Clothing fits the blended body automatically, including items originally designed for only one gender. Items with separate male and female versions still support both, with an optional preference for which version to use. You can also browse cloud clothing and add new items to your session wardrobe.
Reference-photo fitting accepts multiple image links and creates an approximate starting face. It won’t reproduce someone perfectly, but you can blend the result with the existing faces and refine it with the normal controls.
Save your characters, export their appearance as JSON, or visit the plaza to see them walking around.
Using the characters in your game
You can design characters here and apply their exported JSON through the library’s character component without needing the full editor UI. The library also includes an editor prefab if you want character creation inside your game.
The source is browsable. Use the complete system, take individual features, or build a smaller editor that exposes only the options your game needs.
Assets and reuse
The original human models, textures, clothing, and other Facepunch assets belong to Facepunch. Most of the art here comes from those assets, with modifications and some additions. Their existing usage terms still apply.
Anything new I’ve made for this project, including the code and original additions, is free for anyone to use, modify, and include in their own projects. No credit to me is required.
Facepunch is welcome to use, adapt, or reference my work for s&box itself too.
