Clock in. Pack up. Clock out. If you can.

You are Worker #47, the newest hire at the Company's packing facility. Your job is simple: objects arrive on the belt, you repair them, you pack them, you meet the quota. The pay is good. The hours are forever. Your supervisor is always on the intercom, always delighted by your dedication — unpaid or otherwise. Process what the belt provides, bank your earnings before something happens to you, and remember: nothing bad ever happens here. At most... some unforeseen circumstances.

Cracked crates, leaking tanks, things that tick. Every object that arrives on the conveyor is a job, and every job is a small game of nerves — stop the needle in the green, hold the switch steady, follow the sequence, keep the rhythm. Fail, and the object reminds you it was never just a package. The belt does not care. The belt always provides.

Everything you earn during a shift is unbanked until you press END SHIFT. Push one more object and your pay swells. Slip once, and the Company regrets to inform you that your earnings were reallocated to the general pool. Die with your pockets full and the money dies with you — unless you signed the right paperwork. Greed is a strategy here. Greed is also a cause of death.

That vitals monitor on the wall? That's you. Arms, torso, legs, head — every failed task leaves a mark, and every mark stays until the shift ends. Watch the screen: while it's on, you're fine. It's always on. Medical expenses, should anything happen to you, are deducted from your estate. The paperwork is enormous.

A voice on intercom channel 07 guides your every shift. He congratulates you. He corrects you. He assures you, warmly, that this facility has never had a single incident. Fully voiced and always listening, the supervisor is your only company in a factory that would rather you didn't exist. He can't afford to keep losing workers. He says so himself.

The generator falls asleep. The lights go out. Gift boxes arrive on the belt with no sender and a countdown — open one for a blessing, reject it for peace of mind, or hesitate and let it decide for you. Blackouts, hazards and "involuntary personnel events" are not bugs in the system. They are the system.

Spend your banked pay between shifts on Company-approved equipment: safety gloves, company coffee, a stabilizer for shaky hands, insurance for the statistically unlucky... or a Totem of Immortality, no questions asked. Upgrades persist between shifts. Regret persists longer.

Same time tomorrow. And every day after. Forever.
