Something to do with the new meta file system. Apparently after dragging it to another folder the meta file wasn't dragged along with it.
Dragging a modeldoc file to another folder totally broke it

AFAIK Valves proprietary files are not yet properly supported by the new meta file system. Check the newest blog post for more info.
