this will separate the community and make less players for the whole s&box

This is, without a doubt, the most important update for me personally. Two years of learning s&box, building private projects, and honing my skills, all leading up to this moment where I can finally use it as a proper engine to release games on Steam.

Does this also include the ability to publish outside of Steam? I was under the impression that would be possible.

Highly Unlikely, I'd prefer the game stay on steam, I don't want to see vibeslop on itch.io made in s&vox to give it a bad view, i'd rather ppl spend $100 with an Lllc and release quality games to steam

Vibeslop will always be everywhere, I don't think it's really a reason to take away from artistic freedom of being able to choose wherever you want to release, maybe not even on itch but your own website.

I think it's fine to publish outside of Steam, but I guess it will have different license with revenue sharing instead.

It has been said many times that when the license is ready, if you plan to distribute your game, it must be available on Steam, although you can also release it elsewhere.

My workplace develops 3D-based software for individual customers, as opposed to software suitable for a broad public release. We would not want it on Steam.

Disappointing if that is the case, we would probably stick with Unity then. But that is Facepunch/Valve's right to restrict Source 2 software to Steam.

i think the reason they have not mentioned support for publishing to other platforms is because s&box is built on top of source2. no clue tho
