The core gameplay loop is there, and I think the foundation works well.
The main thing I didn’t enjoy was the reeling-in part after wiggling the mouse. It started to feel a bit repetitive. I think it would be more engaging if the fishing minigame changed depending on the rarity of the fish, instead of just increasing the number of clicks needed to reel it in.
I also think it could add more variety if there were ways to increase the value of your fish after catching them. For example, skinning, smoking, preparing, or processing the fish in some way before selling them.
One thing I found confusing was the upgrade system. After I bought the next rod, I wasn’t sure whether I was actually using it or not. Then, when I opened the inventory and clicked on the rod name, it seemed to switch me back to the previous rod I had before buying the better one. It might help to make it clearer which rod is currently equipped, and maybe auto-equip newly purchased rods or add an obvious “Equip” button.
