HEAT — Patch 2
Leaderboards
- Four boards now stand either side of the spawn in Terry Park: RICHEST, HIGHEST LEVEL, BIGGEST BOUNTY and MOST NOTORIOUS.
- They rank the best you've ever reached, not what you're carrying right now — so spending your money can't knock you off the board.
- Your own line is highlighted when you're on it.
Parks
- Every park in the city has been rebuilt. They now have a boundary wall and hedge, gates where the paths reach the street, and a centrepiece worth walking to — a fountain, a bandstand or a statue.
- Three kinds of park: a formal square with flower parterres, a commons with a pond and picnic tables, and one with a playground and a ball court.
- Benches sit along the paths and face them, with bins and lamps between, avenue trees down the routes and clumps of trees on the lawns.
- Terry Park has been tidied to match: proper benches, no clutter underfoot, and the fountain's water actually reaches the basin.
Casino
- Slot machines pay far better. Payouts are up across the board — Diamonds now pay 120 — which takes the machines from keeping 17 cents in the dollar to keeping about 7. How often a spin pays hasn't changed; how much it pays has.
- The bell is dark brown now, so it can't be mistaken for the lemon at a glance.
- The lever drops when the reels spin, and the sign on top tells you what the last pull was worth once the reels stop.
- Roulette tells you when you can't afford a spin, the way the slots always did.
Weapons
- The knife and the bat were far too big. Both have been resized, and both are held properly now: the knife point-up in the fist, the bat gripped rather than balanced across the wrist.
- Their reach has been brought in line with their new size, so a swing lands where the weapon actually is. The bat's reach is slightly shorter than before.
- A holstered pistol sits on your hip instead of floating beside it, and a slung bat leans with you when you crouch.
Police and pedestrians
- A gunshot empties a much bigger area. Everyone nearby runs — but only the ones close enough to have seen you can describe you, so distant witnesses don't add heat.
- Police and pedestrians no longer spawn inside buildings.
Streets
- Zebra crossings run the full width of the road, with stop lines on the approach.
- Road markings stop at junctions instead of crossing in the middle of them, and there are lane dashes between the centre lines and the kerb.
- The city's colours have been retouched.
Fixes
- Players looked different to each other. The same player could be wearing their prison issue on your screen and their own avatar on theirs. Everyone sees the same outfit now.
- A pile of things that clipped through each other — shop shelves, laundromat fittings, the soap machine's keypad, casino plants, park benches — sit where they should.
- Chairs were doll-sized next to the desks they belonged to.
- Tab now holds the hotbar on screen.
