The biggest update yet. A new look, blackjack, a much better first ten minutes, and a city that's been rebuilt piece by piece. A lot of this came straight from your feedback - thank you.
Blackjack is here
- Three tables at the casino, played at the table itself. Sit down, put your chips in the circle
and watch the dealer deal from the shoe. - Two $10–$100 tables on the ground floor, one next to each row of slots (level 5).
- A high-limit $100–$1,000 table upstairs by the VIP rope (level 25).
- Hit, stand, double down and split. Dealer stands on 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2.
- Up to four players per table - sit down with your friends.
A better start
- Rookie head start: new players earn double cash and XP, get up to +60 health, and keep their
cash when busted up to level 3. It fades out gradually until level 10. - Weapons for cash: knuckle dusters are $25 at level 1, the bat $120 at level 5, and the knife
$400 at level 14. Pay with the cash in your pocket at the supply store - no bank trip needed. - Take their weapon: anyone who pulls a bat or a knife on you drops it when they go down.
Already have one? You get some cash instead. Nobody drops guns. - The pistol is listed at the supply store with where to get it, so you know how to get there.
- A waypoint arrow points you to your next step: the cash, the supply store, the nearest ATM,
the pawn shop. - The tutorial has a new weapon step, and a step you've already done is shown ticked off before
it moves on. After the tutorial, a NEXT GOAL card tells you what to work towards. - The controls list fades after a minute and no longer sits under the chat.
A whole new look
- Every screen has been redesigned as the city's own street signs: new lettering, road-sign
colours, and a HUD, shop, bank, map, settings and pause menu to match. - Real pictures of every item in the shop and on your hotbar - weapons, clothes, drugs, ammo and
training. - Nameplates are compact again, with level, bounty and health stacked under your name.
- The minimap keeps its landmark labels apart and in the right order, always shows how far away
a landmark off the edge is, and shows the district and how hot it is underneath. - New drops: police drop a proper box of 9mm, and medkits are a first-aid case. Both turn to face
you.
The city
- Every building is now its own: new rooftops, trims, balconies, awnings, shopfronts and colours
across the whole city - still the same low-poly HEAT. - Everything is sized to you. The bank desk is no longer chin-high; counters, machines, doors
and furniture now fit a person. - Every interior refurnished:
- the bank with teller windows and marble;
- the pawn shop with a gun cage, guitars and junk shelves;
- the laundromat with an island of washers;
- the supply store with a corner for each department;
- the casino with panelling, neon and a bar.
- ATMs everywhere: there's now one in the supply store, and the pawn shop has an ATM and a coin
terminal by the door. - Solid where it should be: awnings, porch roofs, stoop rails, park railings, playground pieces
and shop furniture now have collision. - Street lamps lean out over the road properly, and road markings are flat.
- Hundreds of visual fixes: flickering surfaces, floating signs and props hidden inside walls
are gone - including the flicker on the venue doors.
Casino
- Slots pay out much more: any pair now pays, and a win lands on about a third of spins. The
long-run return is about 98%. - The $50 and $250 roulette tables swapped places.
Sound
- People have voices now: shouts, pain and panic, with lots of variations each.
- New swing whooshes and hit thuds.
Skateboard
- One ollie in four is a kickflip.
- No knockdowns in the park - you can't knock anyone over there, and nobody can knock you.
- The Five Star deck (in case you missed it): a limited deck, only ten will ever exist, for 50
TC at the back-room pawn. Your copy number is printed on the underside.
Banking
- Your first $500 goes in with no deposit limit, so you can bank your first muggings and buy an
upgrade. After that the normal limit applies. The ATM shows how much of the allowance is left. - WASH READY and ATM READY only show up when there's something to collect - no more countdowns
on screen. - ATMs everywhere: see The city above.
Also
- Maxed training shows its MAX in violet in the supply store.
- Look behind (C) is instant - no more swing.
- The park board now ranks the top ten for MOST POLICE DOWNED, and long names are shortened.
- The notoriety title has been taken out.
- The ATM READY and WASH READY chips match the rest of the HUD.
- The pawn shop's coin counter tab now says AMMO.
